🌺 Hello all, this is Oats (ocularguts). After five months of setting this up, I can finally say: Thank you for visiting my website! It is a work in progress, but I am very excited about where Planet Xaoc the ARPG (Art Roleplaying Game) is heading. :) The following tabs will summarize what's new:

🌺 We're now on LoreKeeper! It is a framework of code used for specie communities. I handle Xaoc primarily on my own and outside of my dayjob, so having processes automated helps so much. I'm hoping this will now give me more time to do worldbuilding, adopts, and new content for Xaoc moving forward. :)

🌺 A lot of traits on Planet Xaoc got updated for further convenience and simplification. You can view these on the TRAITS page under the create menu.

🌺 I wanted to make sure duplicates are lessened and I can remember everything easily. Hopefully this will make approvals faster and with less confusion. A short summary:

• New general traits: Feelers, Goofy Lips, Crowded Limbs and Wyvern.

• Wing ears got merged with Crowded Wings.

• Xatli's ear traits now begin with "Feathered". Ribbon Feathered Ears got merged with Regular Feathered Ears.

• Double Ear & Tail traits got merged with Regular/Typical Ear & Tail traits.

• Xopas has new jelly window and feet traits.

• Xulap has new mouth traits.

• Hydra is now availalble for all species.

🌺 Third - An update on the ARPG is that we are currently working on remaking the assets for the Marbles and Items before carrying it over from the previous ARPG trello! Additionally, we are also working on pets when time allows! Currently, there was a high demand for worms, so we are starting with those first. 🌺 If you have suggestions on what kind of pets you'd like to see, do let us know! Right now we have the following suggestions: Insects (Worms, Caterpillars, Bees), Fishes, Hermit Crabs, Microorganisms, Pigeons, Dinosaur-adjacent, and Puffballs. 🌏 Hello, this is ocularguts - thank you for the patience on this update! My main focus moving forward is polishing existing material for Planet Xaoc that is public. This includes the main user interface and lore. Afterwards, I will slowly move onto deeper parts of the site such as prompts, trait lore, and ARPG features. Lastly, adopts and raffle designs will be available here and there to cover site fees!  

🌏 Due to this on-going site overhaul, new MYO design approvals are currently closed until Late August (a month and half from this news post) so I can focus on these updates. Redesigns, transfers, and other forms of site usage is still open.  

🌏 Now onto the main course: the website got a layout refresh! The navigation bar is now sticky when scrolling, and updated with succinct menus. 🌏 First of all, thank you everyone for sticking with me to this day! ;_; Updates are almost always delayed, but announcing specific months genuinely help me squeeze these developments better into my schedule even if it is more than likely that I miss these dates. Truthfully, Planet Xaoc is certainly costly more than profittable, because it still stands to be purely a passion project! I sincerely enjoy updating this website, but I am only able to allot my Sundays (outside of school and daily offline jobs) to work on it. I appreciate the understanding and patience with each update!  

🌏 A lot of the programming side is entirely polished (hence an entire year of no visual updates). The website already includes the following inside its powerhouse of a body (a huge thank you to Liwoyadan again for assisting me with getting all of these working):

1. Masterlist image tab repaired (work in progress, but its better than before).

2. Character Likes are now available onsite! You can like others' masterlist pages, and do so again after 24 hours.

3. Character markets page, Onsite Forums, AND a public drawing board (think Oekaki) are finally functioning!

4. Encounters got added in! This is huge and something I am extremely excited for, as it will be our main "foraging"-style activity on our site. It functions like a simple text and image adventure with options! You get rewards at the end... or unlock site secret and new lore!

5. Character linking is now beta. It should be functioning now, but I will be running more tests later to be sure.

6. Pets extension finally fully work! And pet variants too!

7. Comments hyperlinking @ / username now works.

8. Collections are now functioning and plugged in, which means users will have the ability to showcase specific item collections on the top of their page in the future!

9. Password pages got added in, which will be helpful for Scavenger Hunts events in the future.

10. Rarity icons will be available soon, which will help with accessibility.

11. Random generator is now in, which will help in the future to help others with design ideas + lore canonically naming style!

12. IP-based character labels is added to the masterlist search now.

13. We now have birthday rewards! It's an empty field for now, but users will now get a gift during their birthday on site.

    We now have a functioning crafting system and crafting categories!

14. We finally have admin notifications, which will help me so much keep track of queue load! :-D

🌏 Majority of these are quality of life updates, and especially needing drawn assets. Making the art part is my favorite but I am simply a single body and such takes time. >u< I promise to chip on these features one by one, and keep you all updated! \o/

🌏 Hello, this is ocularguts! Carrying over from our discord server updates post, most major site updates will be now moved from "Late August 2025" to generally "Late 2025" - I will be editing necessary pages to reflect this. This is due to some unexpected calamity issues in my country (severe multiple typhoons compounded over a nearby tsunami really destroyed my safety for a long while), which leaves me to needing to focus on much needed house repairs and injury recoveries. 💦 I have temporarily relocated somewhere physically safe to be able to type up this update and sorta get back on life again, but still have very limited access to the internet while local rescuers navigate the situation. However, I do want to emphasize that Planet Xaoc development brings me a lot of comfort and normalcy, so updates + adopts (to fund site costs) will still continue, just a bit slower! Thanks you so much for the patience and understanding.

🌏 Moving forward, I have now started catching up with my badges queue! Participation for ArtFight 2024 (Seafoam versus Stardust), as well as this year's Artfight 2025 Event (Fossils versus Crystals):

🌏 Side note: For those wondering how badge rarities will be handled, all of them will eventually be available via ARPG in some way! All of them represent a specific creature with lore relevant histories, so there will be no badge that is totally locked to a certain timeframe (as an overtly busy fella, I am truly allergic to all things FOMO). Given that these will likely be in form of a prompt or travelling merchant - it will be an update that will be available much later, so there is no guaranteed date of release for these prompts at the moment. I'm working on it, for sure! Hopefully within mid to late 2026.  

🌏 Going back: I have mentioned in the past that there will be an extension for ArtFight 2025 considering the announcement was made mid-month rather than the start of - I will be moving this extension into December 2026: in the form of a Secret Santa event instead! Previous participants of AF2025 and those who have missed it are both able to enter. The reward again will be a MYO slot + new badge (and those who have missed the AF2025 badge will get that badge as well). I believe that it would not be intuitive to award slots when new MYO design submissions are still closed until rarity and webcoding modifications are done (which needs more time due to aforementioned IRL events), so that is why I moved it to that date while still allowing the ability to get the badge from AF2025 participation.  

🌏 Besides that, I have also been having some important webdev thoughts: Prompts will definitely be a thing but due to their nature of being lore-heavy (which requires a lot of time to write and make art for) and needs admin approval, they will be de-priotized for the time being in favor of on-site methods of earning ARPG cash (such as pet interactions, browser mini games, dailies, wheels, etc). After recent nasty calamities over here, I want the site to have parts that function that relies less on my moderation. More progress will be announced throughout the months! I will also be considering adding a comics section on the site for further future updates that I find enjoyment progress project-wise.  

🌏 On a different note - a question that comes up a lot is: "Do I need to pay to have a Planet Xaoc character?" - The answer is no, and here is a copy-paste elaboration from our rules:

"Designing and owning a Planet Xaoc character is entirely free if desired! We run on a P2R (Pay To Register) system, which means officially registering onsite may potentially cost funds. For example: buying a MYO slot, admin custom commission, or similar methods that explicitly state use of real world currency.  However, in the Terms of Service: Section II (Letter J - Fan characters) - you are allowed to freely make Planet Xaoc inspired characters, use the worldbuild within TTRPG sessions with friends, write and involve your one-off characters, and upload them offsite! So long as we are credited for the source material and they are explicitly noted as a fan character: only used for personal fun, and not for profit nor to harm others."

🌏 Hello, this is ocularguts again! To start, I have been focusing on optimizing traits entirely, whilst writing lore for each one at a time. My primary focus is making everything more open to interpretation, especially for traits that are similar in function, or popular within the community. I am trying to minimize the list in order to smoothen out the design approval procedures both user-side and admin-side!

 

🌏 In my process of optimizing traits, I have also been monitoring the site's overall health and figuring out ways to cleanup areas. In order to preserve space (especially I had noticed my abundance of 2017s art on Xaeco pages that are clogging up load time oh geez...) -- redesigning characters with Old Gen or Illegal traits will permanently void its basis legacy image from the masterlist upon final approval from here on out! As this should no longer be used as a basis for future owners or redesigns. ( While these oldgen/illegal traited legacy images are unavailable in the website's official database, I (ocularguts) do keep a local copy just in case, HOWEVER, it is upto the owner to archive these images if wanting to do so moving forward. This helps a ton with loading speed especially that this website has grown immensely in filesize [and continuously so] over the years!   )

 

🌏 Coding wise, the traits page will temporarily be in its ugly baby stage for a month or two, sorry! ;_; I am moving data around so you might see assets from 2020s era into the trait cards + painted thumbnails overtime, and I will try my best to continue beautifying wherever I can.

 

🌏 That said, I will temporarily close the Redesigns queue as well! They will likely re-open in a few weeks, but new MYO designs will still be closed while we work on a new traits viewing code.

 

🌏 All downgrades are COMPLETELY COMPENSATED where necessary! You get blank/free traits listed in your character's masterlist STATS tab. These can be used once redesigns open again, AND convertible to currency or items once the ARPG is ready.

🌏 As a reminder, all trait adjusments are properly compensated wherever applicable! Meaning, if you had multiple traits (higher than the Common rarity) that got combined into something else, discontinued, etc - you still have it as a blank, now listed on your masterlisted character's STATS tab. In the future, these can also be turned in for currency or items when the ARPG opens.

 

🌏 Feel free to send a Help Ticket anytime if you think a mistake is made, such as:

• There are "Unused #" trait labels / coding remnants on your character masterlist.
• You got under or over the amount of trait compensation needed.
• You are missing a trait or given the wrong trait.

• Either for November/December - more notes about other forms of badges that I mentioned back in August + an allowance for masterlist entries to do unique thumbnails and coverart.
• Continue development for necessary parts (interactive traits page, the dupe codes in some places, convenience buttons, etc.)

🌏 Hello, this is ocularguts! This post is a combination of September and October updates, a lot focuses on cleaning up the website's innards. :-]

⭐ READ CULTURAL LORE TEXT ⭐

🌏 The redesign queue and new MYO submissions are open again! Onsite slot sales will be on an indefinite pause until 2026 until I can firmly say I am done with clean-up of the site's hotspots.

🌏 The masterlist now allows unique art! Open to approved and officially masterlisted characters, are the addition of cover art and personalize thumbnails:

🌏 Moving forward, redesigned Old Gens will delete its legacy images permanently because it should no longer be used as a basis for redesigns or future reiterations (this will also help the server breathe better with less images, especially some masterlist pages lag often). Old Gen in general are now annotated within the STATS notes! 

🌏 Lastly,  trait system optimization! A huge thanks again to  Min (Liwoyadan) for helping a ton with developing the new layout. :-D Make sure to read the usage guide for troubleshooting and the former plain text version! 

⭐ CHECK TRAITS PAGE ⭐

🌏 You can click on the thumbnails to check descriptions and sample images! I am still actively testing and updating this, so it uses a ton of placeholder images for the thumbs as well as the buttons.

🌏 The CSS is not yet ready, but I wanted to re-open the submissions queue as soon as possible so these were released the earliest it could be. :-] So, it is temporarily funky on the purple and lightmode versions.

🌏 Following that, ALL traits have been reviewed and condensed to prioritize ease of approvals and new uploads! The simplification helps encourage openness on how each trait is interpreted, instead of overtly dividing traits that can be mistaken for its similar counterparts.

🌏 Any downgrades were properly compensated AND if you wish for your compensations to be used for a DIFFERENT character redesign or transferred to an existing MYO slot, just send a HELP TICKET (admin contact button on your dashboard) and I will allow and move where desired. :-] In the future, I will set up a shop/process where people can turn in downgrade compensations in return for ARPG currency, that way it can be re-used for other ARPG shops if preferred.

🌏 Trait categories have also been simplified for a cleaner masterlist view! Decorative, Torso, and Tails are now collectively under Body. Jelly, Toggleables, or lore-reliant traits are under Skills. That said, all rarity and trait changes are noted below:

Xulap mouths renamed to —> Fissures —> Added to Xaeco's bodily slit styles.

Scribblet —> Allows your character to have a doodled version, useable for ARPG too.

Tube —> Finshape for Xulap.

Mirror —> Self duplication skill.

Fissure Veil —> Ability to toggle hiding fissures for Xaeco and Xulap.

Plain Ears —> Lack of ear filament for Xatli.

 

WORK IN PROGRESS:

(Unsure Rarity) A trait to allow the character to freely transform into other beings (humanoid form, earth fauna, etc).

(Anomaly: Infinitum?) A trait that allows for the character to shed some part of themselves to be reborn into tiny minions/companions. Can have individual thought or hivemind, may have distance limitation before dissolving or losing connection from main body.

Typical + Messy + Puffy Tail traits merged with —> Regular Tail for Xaeco and Xatli.

Frill + Teardrop + Feathered + Droopy + Flat + Round + Asymmetric + Floppy Ears traits merged with —> Regular Ears for Xaeco and Xatli.

Shapes + Circular + Reaction + Eye-like Scenes merged with —> Shapely Scene for Xatli.

Round + Pointy + Wavey Finshape merged with —> Regular Finshape.

Regular Feet renamed to —> Stance for Xopas.

Monochrome Pulp renamed to —> Simple Pulp, now allows simple same-family-color gradients for Xopas.

Shimmer —> Updated definition: now allows glowing + all former marking effects for all species.

Crystals + Crystallisation merged and renamed into —> Gemed for all species.

Shaped + Hooded Furvest merged into —> Funky Furvest for Xaeco.

Flat + Split + Stacked + Shape-tip Tail traits merged with —> Shapely Tail for Xaeco and Xatli.

Fluffy + Feathered + Scaly Body combined into with —> Textured Coat for Xulap.

Ribbon + Intersected + Shape-tip Finshape of Xulap merged into —> Funky Finshape for Xulap.

Skewer + Guard Scene merged into —> Royal Scene for Xatli.

Flora Scene rarity is moved (formerly Common) for Xatli.

Flora Pulp is now discontinued, Xopas's jelly can freely have plant and flora silhoettes without the trait.

Multiple (starting with three pairs of) Ears and Tails + Crowded Limbs and Scene + Hydra + Fractured —> temporarily named Multitude, now officially called —> Crowded for all species.

All fauna-inspired traits: Feelers, Horns, Basilisk, Chassis Mimicry, Spikes, and Odd Feet now called —> Critterfect for all species.

Fluffy + Feathered Wings traits merged and renamed to —> Textured Wings for Xatli.

Strato + Aerial scene traits now merged with —> Cosmic Scene for Xatli.

Absent Ears + Furvest + Tail + No Eyes now merged into —> Absence for all species.

Absent Horn for Xatli has been discontinued.

Segmented Body for Xulap has been discontinued, now moved to Sacred: Floating Parts.

Embedded Objects renamed to —> Embed.

Crowded Wings + allowance for Xopas's pulp body (the container itself of the jelly) —> Flight for all species.

Rogue Scene rarity is moved to Sacred (formerly Anomaly).

Discontinued Crowded Scene for Xatli.

Collide renamed to —> Morph for all species.

Collide —> is now a big work in progress! Maybe the allowance of a character to morph into other species or designed with partial inspiration of other species besides their own? Not sure yet, needs careful planning in order to make sure it does not overconvolute masterlist categories and rarities.

Infinitum (formerly Xaoc Infinitum) —> is now a big work in progress, too! Those with this trait is compensated, then given the (Rare) Shimmer trait, which now allows glowing anywhere on the body.

🌏 Around the same timeline as above, I will be announcing the early registration for the Secret Santa event.

• There are "Unused #" trait labels / coding remnants on your character masterlist.

• You got under or over the amount of trait compensation needed.

• Updating CSS and new button artworks + start making thumbnail previews for the new trait searcher layout!

• Figure out fixing mobile issues with comments.

• Either for November/December: more notes about other forms of badges that I mentioned back in August.

• If time allows, I really want to be able to figure out one shop and one dailies!

🌏 Added a few new traits (click the links for more information and usage guidelines):

Infinitum - Allows assistive spores.

Seer - Allows transformation into a literal eyeball.

Blinker - Allows eyes to spawn on the surrounding.

Perceptive - Allows eyes to move freely around the body.

Sight - Allows any amount of eyes, design, and placement on the body.
